Patreon charges 5–12% depending on the plan + Stripe/PayPal transaction fees (1.5–5%), which are not listed in the main fee overview.
|

Payout Speed
|
Instant | 1–3 weeks | Monthly |
30–60 days
YouTube pays once a month with a 1–2 month delay. Ads from January are typically paid in March.

Creation Pressure
|
None |
Very high
The subscription model requires a constant supply of content to prevent subscribers from cancelling. Churn is the main threat to income.
|
High
Retaining patrons requires regular exclusive content, updates, and engagement. "Subscription fatigue" is a real phenomenon.
|
Extreme
The algorithm rewards consistent, frequent uploads. Channels with low upload frequency significantly lose reach and recommendations.

The score evaluates parameters of monetization, fee fairness, and creator control. It does not evaluate reach or community size.
We evaluated each platform based on 9 independent criteria derived solely from publicly available terms as of Q2 2026. No platform sponsored the test or influenced the result.
The score does not include platform size, number of users, or subjective UX. We evaluate solely the financial conditions and the degree of creator control over their own income.
What the data showed: six areas where the test winner differs most significantly from the competition.
The test winner (Watchimo) collects a service fee from the viewer, not the creator. Out of the tested platforms, 100% of the content price goes directly to the creator in this way. Other platforms take 5–45% directly from the creator's income.
When do you actually get paid after a transaction takes place?
The psychology of urgency in practice — what it looks like to the viewer.
How much does the platform force you to create without a break?
Anti-fraud system and anti-piracy protection ensure that only those who are supposed to pay for your content do. No screenshots on Telegram, no free pirated copies.
Your dashboard updates instantly. You see views, earnings, and audience data without delay – unlike YouTube or Patreon, where you wait 24–48 hours for data. You make decisions based on today's numbers, not last week's numbers.
Set your monthly revenue and watch the real differences in fees — every month, every year.

Creators with an existing community who want to maximize income from premium content without subscription pressure.
Creators in the adult/entertainment segment with a large fan base where stigma does not play a role.
Creators with a loyal community who want a regular income and membership model without brand risks.
Creators building an audience from scratch — as an acquisition channel. Weak as a primary monetization tool for medium creators.
No spin. Every tool has strengths and limits. Here are both sides of the coin.
100% of income belongs to the creator. No platform offers this in such a pure form. The service fee is paid by the viewer, not the creator.
Money in the account immediately after the transaction. With YouTube or OnlyFans, you wait weeks-months. For creators without reserves, this is a key difference.
No algorithm decides your income. You set the price, format, and availability. Platform risk is minimal.
Subscription grind and daily posting are completely unnecessary here. You create when you have something to say – not to "keep people subscribed".
Watchimo does not provide you with traffic. Unlike YouTube, the platform won't guide you to new viewers. You must bring your own audience – which is a sign of your independence, not weakness.
The Pay-per-view model works best if you already have a community or a strong social media presence. For creators from scratch, YouTube is still a better starting point.
YouTube and Patreon have time-tested ecosystems of tools, analytics, and partner programs. Watchimo is a younger platform that is still building this depth.
Watchimo is the ideal choice for creators who already have an audience and want to maximize income without losing control. To build an audience from scratch, combine it with YouTube or TikTok as an acquisition channel.

The test winner works with the "Creator-first pricing" model: you set the price of your content (e.g. €5). The viewer pays €5 + the platform's service fee (e.g. €0.50). The entire €5 goes directly to your Stripe account — the platform takes the fee from the viewer, not the creator.
In contrast, the other tested platforms deduct a percentage directly from your income. You set €5, the viewer pays €5, and you receive less — up to 45% less in the case of YouTube ads.
Of the tested platforms, only the test winner offers paid DMs as a full feature. The creator sets a price for access to direct messages — fans pay a fixed rate to open the conversation or for each message separately. OnlyFans does allow DMs, but without flexible price control. Patreon, YouTube, and others do not offer this feature at all.
Paid DMs are particularly strong for:
The subscription model has one basic characteristic: your income depends on the average number of active subscribers × monthly price. This sounds good, but hides a psychological mechanism called churn anxiety.
Because subscribers leave if they don't get enough value, you are forced to constantly produce content – not to grow, but to maintain the status quo. Creators on Patreon and OnlyFans report spending 60–70% of their time on "maintenance content" for existing subscribers.
Surveys in the creator economy show that 73% of creators on subscription platforms cite "content burnout" as the main reason for leaving or limiting creation.
FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is a proven psychological mechanism that increases conversion rate. Of the tested platforms, only the test winner fully implements it — through these specific tools:
Content available for only 48 hours. People who would normally hesitate buy immediately.
Content "locked" until payment threshold is reached. The community mobilizes itself.
Limited number of buyers creates natural pressure and a sense of exclusivity.
Push notifications for subscribers when new paid content is launched.
The test showed that subscription platforms and direct pay-per-view monetization appeal to a different audience segment — and therefore do not compete. In every audience, there are two types of fans:
Loves your content, wants regular access, pays monthly. Ideal customer for Patreon or OnlyFans.
Refuses the subscription, but is happy to pay for a specific video or course. Subscription platforms systematically lose this segment.
As a result, adding a pay-per-view layer does not cannibalize existing subscribers — it captures those who would otherwise not pay at all. Total income grows without affecting the existing model.
Most effective combination: Patreon or OnlyFans for regular content and community → pay-per-view platform (test winner) for premium one-shot pieces (masterclass, behind-the-scenes, exclusive drops). Each layer serves a different role.
The test confirmed that YouTube and direct monetization do not compete — they perform different functions. Optimal stack for creators with an existing audience in 2026:
Free content for audience building, SEO, and organic reach. YouTube won in the organic reach category — as an acquisition channel, it is irreplaceable.
Premium content, real-time analytics, paid DMs, and pay-per-view for an existing audience. Free viewers turn into paying customers — 100% of the content price remains with the creator.
Out of the nine tested criteria, the winner achieved the best score in fees, payout speed, money flow transparency, and range of monetization models. YouTube leads in organic reach — as an acquisition channel it remains irreplaceable.
Fairest fees, instant payouts, direct money flow.
Best organic reach for building an audience from scratch.
Best for retaining a loyal community via membership model.
